No Honeymoon

I still haven't had a honeymoon which is pretty crap. Don't want to be a moaner but I am really wishing that we had spent our wedding money on a holiday instead of the sodding wedding

No Money, Loads of Problems

Well, I must admit that at the moment I am really struggling with money. The squidling wants a new tv in his room. I want, nay, need a holiday. Mr A wants...well not much really he is pretty laid back. Although he did say that some new clothes would be nice (bless him he works 14 hour days and there is never any money left for treats!)

I was watching Billie Piper in Secret Diary of a Call Girl and it has given me some inspiration. Have done a bit of glamour modelling and I think I will have to do some more as I am really poor!! Have to get back to the gym...

It's been a long time!

It's been a while since I have blogged anything at all but life has slowed down and got into a bit of a routine now since Mr A and I moved into our first home just the two of us.

It's funny really as we have now been married just over a year and it's the first home we will share together. It was definitely a good move as it is so much nicer being in our own space. Living in a house share as a couple is not much fun. The Summer has really flown by and now the Squidling is growing up. He has started school and there has been a huge change in his behaviour and in our relationship.

I want to concentrate on the future now and not think about the last year. The first year doesn't have to be the honeymoon period (especially as we haven't had one yet!) and am sure we can make it ok together.

Happy Mother's Day

Well I've always been one to pretend I don't like my birthday and when I became a mother, mother's day became yet another day for me to dread. And here is why:

I have heard all the stories of how my friends were spoiled by their families today and I am jealous as my day was spent, as any other, doing things for other people. Of course, I am a daughter as well as a mother so it was my job to spoil my mum today. But I had to beg Mr A for a cup of tea in bed this morning and was then turfed out of it by my 4 year old who wanted me to play. In our household mother's day is a day like any other where the mother must spend QUALITY TIME with her children. While Mr A spends the morning (and some of the afternoon) in bed I entertain the boy, clean the kitchen and prepare a meal for my mum. I am shattered and spending mother's day evening working. Mr A does not seem to understand and am very disappointed.

I hate the disappointment that comes with these supposed celebrations, either mark them or don't but make the rules clearer.

I am celebrating my birthday in 2 weeks and to save disappointment have planned my own party and made a list. Just in case anyone isn't clear...

Awesome Chicken

Have made some awesome chicken lately, check it out:
http://www.jamieoliver.com/recipes-new/home-cooking-skills/everyday-crispy-chicken-with-sweet-tomatoes

It is delicious served with garlic bread and a nice green salad. Definitely chop up some new potatoes and sling them in as it is so tasmty like that. My friends (and Mr A) go crazy about this dish and often after the chicken is all gone chunks of garlic bread get dipped into the gorgeous tomato juices flavoured with garlic and basil.

It's nice to have a great white wine to serve with this, ABC (anything but chardonnay) is good here as the oakiness in chardonnay is wrong and I find that a pinot grigio or chablis is more delicate and goes well with the intense flavours of the dish.

We made crispy marshmallow cakes at the weekend with the little squidling (our son) but have been rather lax on the baking lately.

I'm planning a joint birthday party with my friend, who I will call Dolly as she's beautiful like a porcelain doll! Dolly will be 30 this year, me 28. We're both parents now so will be a great chance to let our hair down! Will be discussing party nibbles soon on here, hoping to make some interesting little bits

And We Wanted Equality...

Have been thinking about an old joke:

Compliment her,
cuddle her,
kiss her,
caress her,
love her,
stroke her,
tease her,
comfort her,
protect her,
hug her,
hold her,
spend money on her,
wine & dine her,
buy things for her,
listen to her,
care for her,
stand by her,
support her,
go to the ends of the earth for her...
HOW TO IMPRESS A MAN:
Show up naked.
... with Beer

I'm not so sure this is really true...I know I had to work very hard in the early stages of my relationship with Mr A. Now women are expected to be able to hold down jobs as well as handle all the household jobs a 50s housewife was expected to do. Because of the equality that we as women have fought for, things have in my opinion, gone bonkers. Men, on the other hand are benefiting from this so called equality as now not only do we all have to go out to bloody work and handle our homes, our men are becoming slightly emasculated with us being the driving force behind anything that needs doing in the home. It's fucking ridiculous...

I like having a career but think that things have gotta give.

If we are going to be equals then every married couple needs a cleaner. Or some HELP!!

Anyway, rant over am going to be entertaining my sister in law and family so will be piloting a Jamie Oliver lasagne with roasted butternut squash, let you know how I get on!

The Mexican Stand Off

So, we have been rowing this week about washing! Is anyone else sick of doing the washing because they are the woman? I have a 4 day week job, so only one day less than the husband. I do all the cooking and washing and cleaning around the house (except our bedroom which he does hoover once a week!)

Anyway, despite my threats of going to primark and buying a whole new wardrobe just so I don't have to do the washing (we have done none since before xmas), I have now relented and taken today off just to do washing. Am looking into a laundry service.
